The House Hunting Trip

I'm so behind on my blog, so we are just going to start with the current craziness and work backwards.

On Monday, January 10th, we found out that we were being transferred down to San Diego for Adam's job. We were so excited but the stress hit me when Adam told me when he was supposed to start work.... February 1st! We have three weeks to find a house and move down to San Diego?! Yes, that's right. Out of all the times we have moved, we have never up and moved in this short of time so I was a bit nervous.

We headed down to go house hunting on Wednesday and then got an early start to finding our future home on Thursday. Lucky for us, Our brother and sister in law live close enough to San Diego that they were able to take Daxton (and totally spoil him) while we searched like crazy.

After the first day we were totally beat mentally and pretty discouraged. Every place we looked at in our price range had something wrong with it. Nothing we couldn't handle or deal with but to name a few: some had crazy expensive pet fees, no backyard, or a one car garage that wouldn't fit much storage.

Friday started off rough. We felt like we had seen most of the places we wanted to or people weren't getting back to us about seeing other homes. But we had turned in an application for one place that would have been a fine fit for our family, so we were waiting for the result of that. We couldn't stop looking though just in case that one fell through.

Then Adam found a house that we hadn't seen yet. We were hopeful for this house as a back up. But when we saw the place, it didn't give us that "Yes!" feeling. It was fine but we didn't love it. But the realtor told us that he had just listed another three bedroom house about 30 minutes earlier and asked if we wanted to see it. We figured it wouldn't hurt anything to go see it, so we headed over to see it. On our way to this place we received a call about the house that we had put an application in for. We had been approved for that house and they wanted us to go in and sign the contract! So we both decided that we would go see this other house and if it didn't wow us, then we were going to sign papers for the first house.

The realtor warned us ahead of time that they had maintenance guys repainting and fixing a couple of things so it was kind of messy. After we walked through the house though, we decided that it was the one!! We loved it and it had everything were hoping for! This house was bigger and cheaper than we thought we would have to pay plus no monthly pet fee AND no pet deposit!!!!! And it is in a fabulous little neighborhood with a park just down the street. So we stayed at the house, filled out the application, and handed it to the realtor to begin the approval process. He told us he could get back to us that afternoon!

We needed a break so we went and grabbed lunch. We were given a time for when we had to make a decision about the first house, only because their office was closing and they weren't open on the weekends. But the realtor for the second house we just applied for literally called us as we were finishing lunch and told us that we were approved and that we could come sign papers any time!

We were seriously guided to this house! It felt great to have a house feel so right. We are thankful that we were able to find a house so fast and one that would let us move in quickly! Now things are just going to keep going faster and faster this week. We will most likely be out of our house by Friday and in to our new house by Monday the first! This has been and will continue to be a quick and crazy ride.

We have loved living in Turlock and will miss our friends and our ward here. But we are glad we had the chance to make some great friends along the way. We are also very excited to be on this new adventure that will also give Adam more experience in his career.

  1. I would be nervous if I was given only three weeks to find a house and move to another location. It feels like you were meant to find this house, and it is good to know you had other offers if this house did not work out. It looks like a cozy spot to raise a family just by looking at the interior.
